On 31 March 2016, ReNew Power Ventures became the first Indian company to cross 1GW of installed clean-energy capacity, reaching the mark within five years across 29 wind and solar projects in nine states. Founded in 2011 by Sumant Sinha, the company operates across Gujarat, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand, backed by investors including Goldman Sachs, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, the Asian Development Bank and the Global Environment Fund — at the time, the largest renewable energy company in India by both total equity and total capital raised.
